2011 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara Thursday, August 19th, 2010

The 2011 Jeep Wrangler is getting the aesthetic update of the decade – a painted hardtop. Chrysler’s Toledo Assembly Complex has just begun production of the newest Wrangler giving it bunches of interior plushy updates: updated steering wheel and instrument panel, larger rear windows, lockable center console, USB / Bluetooth audio interface, 110-volt AC outlet, and an acoustic package jeep claims is going to tame some of that loud Jeepish riding noise. In this humble writers opinion, it’s the best looking jeep since the 1970′s CJs. Sadly, the upgrades will not be fixing or improving upon the Wrangler’s biggest drawback – the engine. Having recently test driven the flagship 2010 four-door Rubicon with all the frills and whistles, we found the 202 horsepower / 237 lb-ft of torque V6 to perform in a manner you would expect from one of Chryslers lower echelon mini-vans (note: we have never driven a lower echelon Chrysler mini-van) not an engine harnessed to power Dana 44 axles and turn those meaty BFG mud tires through the toughest of terrain. The 2011 upgrades look wonderful but unfortunately, the Wrangler’s V6 isn’t something Chrysler “got right”. However, if you not into the off-road scene and are just looking to buy a really slick looking Jeep, you’ll be able to do so in Bright White, Cosmos Blue, Deep Cherry Red, Detonator Yellow, and Sahara Tan (pictured). Production is under way but no pricing or availability dates have been announced.
